Man Kills Himself After Standoff With Police

LNS,

A man killed himself after a standoff on early Sunday morning at a Southwest Side party.

Police have identified the man as Hector Morales-Esquivel, 22.

The incident happened in the 5900 block of Royalgate Drive. According to the police, Esquivel was at a party, when he got in an argument with the woman he had come along with. He left the apartment and returned with a shotgun.

When he returned with the gun, all the people inside, six adults and eight children ran outside. When they were all out, Esquivel locked himself inside the house. The police officers at the scene called the SWAT teams. They were able to contact Esquivel through phone and were trying to convince him to come outside. During that time the officer heard a muffled sound of a gunshot fired.

San Antonio Police Department spokeswoman Misty Floyd said that the police officers went inside as they thought Esquivel had shot himself and was hurt. After going inside the officers found him dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police said no one else was injured during the standoff.

Police are trying the understand the reason of the standoff and why the suspect shot himself. They have questioned all the witnesses and collected evidence.
